The German Laura Siegemund defeat the Spanish Rebecca Masarova at the WTA tournament in Hua Hin, Thailand, 6-3 and 6-4, and reached her first semifinals in 2024.
In the first match between the two, the German player won in two hours and seven minutes and became one of the four survivors of the tournament.
Siegemund, champion in Stuttgart in 2017 and Bastad in 2016, is about to return to the final. The last time the 99th player in the WTA ranking played was in Warsaw, in 2023.
Masarova had no options at any point in the match and was eliminated in the semifinals, which would be her best performance in 2024.
Siegemund will face Dutch Arianne Hartono in the semifinals, who defeated Japanese Mai Hontama 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
On the other side of the draw, Slovenian Tamara Zidansek, who eliminated Argentine Nadia Podoroska 4-6, 7-6 (3) and 7-6 (3), will face Croatian Jana Fett, who returned from Slovak Rebecca Sramkova.
