The incident happened shortly before 7 p.m. The 59-year-old from Rhineland-Palatinate was a pilot on a hot air balloon flight from Kirchberg to Kitzbühel. “Because the necessary winch failed above a forest shortly before landing in Kitzbühel, he could no longer leave the forest,” the police said.
Passengers were lucky
Because it was impossible to reach the landing site and the gas was running out, the pilot decided to make an emergency landing in the forest. “The three passengers in the balloon, who came from the Unterallgäu district, were unharmed.” Once the investigation is completed, a report will be sent to the responsible authorities.
Two TVB employees and six men from the Kitzbühel Mountain Rescue Service were on duty.
