An admirer of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has dedicated a themed restaurant to her in his native Albania. Seventy painted portraits of Meloni, designed by Albanian artist Helidon Haliti, hang on the walls.
The Italian head of government is seen with a wide variety of facial expressions and hairstyles. The restaurant is located in the northern Albanian port city of Shëngjin, just a stone’s throw from where the Italian government is building a reception centre for asylum seekers. It offers fish and seafood.
Does not share any political views at all
Meloni is a “very interesting, strong” personality, artist Haliti said. But he said he did not share her political views. The restaurant owner, 58, who was an actor, said he was fascinated by Meloni’s “extraordinary” personality. Gjergj Luca said he hoped she would visit his restaurant soon.
The two migrant camps in Albania will open in October after several delays. The plan is to distribute people rescued by the Italian coastguard in the Mediterranean: women and children to Italy, up to 3,000 men to Albania.
