Israel prepares for ground invasion of Lebanon, opening door to new occupation

At least 51 people were killed and another 223 wounded on Wednesday in Israeli bombardments on several areas in southern and eastern Lebanon, as Israel continues to carry out intense airstrikes for the third day in a row.

The Chief of the Israeli General Staff, Herzi Halevisaid on Wednesday that the air strikes on Lebanon are preparing the ground for a possible Israeli ground invasion against Hezbollah, after the army called up two brigades to carry out “missions” in the north. Halevi outlined that the possible Israeli “maneuver” would involve invading towns in southern Lebanon that the Shiite group has “converted into a large military base,” in order to destroy the group’s infrastructure in the area.
