After Funding Abuse – “Action sharp”: checks are doubled

Date:

After the misuse of funding, the “sharp action” is now coming to Viennese kindergartens. But: the club, which used the money to settle private traffic fines, for example, does not have to close.

The misuse of funding by the private kindergarten association Minibambini, which was discovered by the Court – we reported – has consequences. Although not very big. Deputy Mayor Christoph Wiederkehr (NEOS) together with the head of MA 10 (kindergartens), Karin Broukal, announced a “sharp action” for this year. By the summer, 1,000 inspections of sponsoring organizations must take place and the total number of inspections must be doubled. “Misuse of funding will not be tolerated,” Wiederkehr stressed.

Three inspectors more and 130,000 euros back
That is why they also want to strengthen the control within MA 10, which is responsible for the payment of the subsidy. The associated department will be expanded by three employees to 21. Broukal, who has been in office since mid-December, wants to “take a closer look” at the processes in the financing system.

Traffic fines paid with tax money
Back to Minibambini: the club has to pay back 129,616 euros in subsidies to the city by the end of the month. Some 18,000 euros, which was transferred from the subsidies and used for traffic fines, now have to be paid privately.

But: Minibambini does not have to close and will not be taken over by a new provider. “There were no major shortcomings in kindergarten. Many anonymous tips could be refuted,” says Wiederkehr. The accusation that some children only existed on paper was also unfounded. Nevertheless, the club is on trial for the deputy mayor.
