The fire brigade in Wolfsberg (Carinthia) had to respond to a major fire on Friday evening. A warehouse burned down completely.
The former Lebek Hall is completely on fire! “The building burned to the ground!”, Wolfgang Weißhaupt, district fire chief of Wolfsberg, describes the operation.
Several houses evacuated
Due to the strong winds, neighboring houses had to be evacuated. “There are five families who had to be brought to safety at the construction site in Wolfsberg; the wind could have caused the fire to spread to other buildings,” Weißhaupt continued. In this regard, everything is now clear.
More than 150 emergency services are fighting the fire. “There is still a huge amount of smoke.”
Several companies were housed in the hall. Including a nail salon and also a disco. “Luckily no one was injured,” says Weißhaupt. A new arcade would open there on Friday. The cause of the fire is unclear. “Fire investigators are on scene and the cause of the major fire is to be determined.” According to Weißhaupt, the extinguishing work will continue throughout Friday morning. “It concerns an area of several thousand square meters that has completely burned down.”
