Lufthansa subsidiary Eurowings canceled flights to and from Salzburg last weekend. Hundreds of holidaymakers were subsequently stranded at the airport.
The weekend was decidedly different from what had been planned for one or the other holidaymaker: Eurowings canceled flights to and from Salzburg at short notice. About 500 passengers were stranded at Salzburg airport on Sunday. In some cases, they were not notified of the cancellation until en route to their flight. There were also outages on Saturday.
There was a lot of regret…
The Lufthansa subsidiary has not initiated any quick fixes. There was great regret about this: “Over the weekend, there were short-term sick leave from our crews, including corona diseases, which were higher than planned in our plans.” And that with generally thin personnel reserves at the moment. Small consolation for the holidaymakers who stayed in Salzburg.
“All the guests who booked through TUI drove home from the airport without reaching anything,” says Patrizia Weinberger of TUI. A crisis meeting called at short notice on Sunday with the Lufthansa subsidiary did not succeed. “Eurowings cannot offer replacement flights to our guests until further notice. We as TUI are therefore now taking action ourselves and will make our own replacement aircraft available this week,” said Weinberger.
It is hoped that the weekend flight cancellations were a one-off. The airline itself does not dare to give concrete future prospects.
