While the world looks to Lebanon, the war in Gaza continues. At least eleven people were killed in an Israeli attack on a former school building. Now Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has spoken out.
“We are not going (…). Palestine is our homeland. It is the land of our fathers, our grandfathers. It will remain ours, and if anyone were to leave, it would be the occupiers,” Abbas said in his speech during the general debate at the UN General Assembly in New York.
‘Stop this crime. Stop it immediately. Stop killing children and women. Stop the genocide. Stop supplying weapons to Israel,” Abbas addressed the international community. All people are responsible for what their people experience in Gaza and the West Bank.
Wants to release hostages
Abbas called for the release of “detained people on both sides,” especially women, children and the elderly.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also spoke at the UN about the war in the Gaza Strip. After almost a year of war, more than half of Hamas members (more than 20,000) have been killed or captured. The Israeli army destroyed more than 90 percent of its rocket arsenal and significant parts of its tunnel network.
Hamas had an underground tunnel system that was larger than the New York subway network. Netanyahu’s government remains focused on bringing the Israeli hostages home. “We will not stop until this mission is accomplished.”
