A serious traffic accident occurred late on Friday evening in the Braunau district of Upper Austria. A 37-year-old drove into the opposite lane and collided head-on with the car of a 27-year-old and his 40-year-old passenger. He was so trapped in the wreckage that any help came too late.
A 40-year-old German from Bad Füssing had no chance on Friday at 10:50 p.m. He was a passenger in the car of a 27-year-old Romanian from Obernberg am Inn on Mauerkirchner Straße between Uttendorf and Mauerkirchen. In the vehicle behind were two Mauerkirchners (30, 33).
I ended up in the opposite lane
For an unknown reason, an oncoming Mauerkirchner (37) suddenly crossed into oncoming traffic in the municipality of Helpfau-Uttendorf and rammed his car head-on into the 27-year-old’s vehicle. The 30-year-old rear-driver was unable to brake in time and collided with the back of the accident victim.
Three trapped in cars
The sheer force of the impact left the 27-year-old and the 40-year-old so trapped in their vehicle that they had to be freed by the fire brigade – but all help came too late for the older man and he died on the spot. The younger man was taken to Braunau Hospital with serious injuries. The car of 37-year-old Mauerkirchner was thrown into the ditch, he was also seriously injured and had to be cut from the wreckage and taken to Altötting hospital.
Crisis intervention team on site
The occupants of the third car (33, 30) were able to get out of their vehicle independently and were injured to an unspecified extent. They were also taken to Braunau hospital.
