The Israeli army says it has located and destroyed a roughly one-kilometer-long tunnel in the central part of the Gaza Strip.
According to the army, several rooms and equipment have been discovered that allowed fighters from the militant Palestinian organization Hamas to stay in the tunnel for extended periods of time.
Located close to residential areas
The tunnel was built near residential areas and civilian facilities, the report said. The facility was discovered in recent weeks.
Current figures show that 41,595 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since Israel’s Gaza war against Hamas began almost a year ago, according to the Hamas-led Health Ministry.
Several killed in Israeli attacks
Eleven Palestinians were killed in separate Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip on Sunday, according to local health authorities. A school building housing refugees in Beit Lahiya was among those hit, it was said. Four people were killed.
According to Israeli information, a command center of the radical Islamic Hamas, located on a former school site, was hit. Hamas is once again using civilian facilities for military purposes. The Islamists have rejected such accusations.
