A serious traffic accident occurred at a railway crossing in Kirchdorf an der Krems in Upper Austria on Sunday morning. A car was hit by a train. The destroyed car became stuck vertically between a water culvert and a cable bridge. One person was injured.
The accident happened on Sunday morning at a railway crossing where Ertlstrasse crosses the Pyhrnbahn. A car was hit by a regional train at the traffic-light-protected railway crossing. The car was then thrown next to the railway crossing and came to rest, wedged vertically between a water culvert and a cable bridge.
One person was trapped
Fire and rescue services had to free one person from the wreckage of the accident. The person was taken to hospital after first aid. Recovery of the accident vehicle subsequently proved difficult.
Power cut
For the rescue operation, not only the overhead lines, but also an electricity line had to be switched off. In addition, numerous additional environmental measures were necessary due to the leakage of operating resources into the water passage of the local stream – the Neupernsteinergraben. Oil barriers were set up and a vacuum truck was called to the scene.
Five fire brigades in action
On behalf of the ÖBB, the fire brigade was deployed with the drone; in total there were at least five fire brigades present.
Replacement rail services were set up
Ertlstrasse is currently closed and the Pyhrnbahn line is interrupted in the area of the deployment location between Micheldorf in Oberösterreich train station and Kirchdorf an der Krems train station. “A track replacement service for S-Bahn and regional trains has been set up, long-distance trains are awaiting closure for the time being,” the ÖBB says.
