There was no good basis for their theft for two Czechs in the Gmünd district in the Waldviertel. In Heidenreichstein they filled their backpacks and wanted to walk out the door. Eventually they had to flee and were even chased. Eight patrols and a search dog were deployed. Many rumors followed.
Two Czechs (50 and 53) had imagined it very differently. With well-filled backpacks, they wanted to make their way past the checkout of a supermarket in Heidenreichstein in the Waldviertel.
But because an employee of the discount store checked their backpacks, they fled. Although the police advise against such ‘heroic acts’, an employee chased the perpetrators and gave officers their location. Shortly afterwards, a thief was arrested at a nearby car dealership.
Eight patrols and a search dog in action
Eight sector patrols were looking for his accomplice, with a search dog also deployed. The Czech hid at the nearby Romaubach Bridge, where he was arrested. As he fled, he threw the loot in the bushes. The director was able to secure the stolen goods.
There were many rumors going around, one of which was persistent
A number of rumors initially circulated about the theft. One particularly persistent one persisted for a long time: a truck driver from the Czech Republic played a key role in the arrest and detention of one of his compatriots for rushing to help supermarket staff. However, the police cannot confirm this. It was reported that both suspects were at large.
