Faced with demands from education unions to negotiate directly with the regional executive, Chivite has insisted that “the Minister of Education is as valid and competent in education matters as the rest of the government.”
The President of the Government of Navarre, María Chivite, assured on Thursday that she has “extended her hand” to the Navarrese public education unions regarding the new call for a general strike for October 29 next.
Regarding the union organizations’ insistence on meeting her, she claimed that “the Minister of Education is as valid and competent in education matters as the rest of the government.”
The President has therefore responded before the media to the call for a strike announced for October 29 next by the unions of the Education Sector Council (STEILAS, ANPE, AFAPNA, LAB, CCOO, ELA and UGT). The unions justify the new strike day due to the “lack of response” from the executive after the September 26 general strike.
chivite has assured that the Navarrese government “remains open to dialogue” and has blamed the trade union organizations for canceling the last meeting “without listening to the proposals of the Minister of Education.” “The government has always reached out. In fact, they were the ones who stood up after the last meeting of the Sectoral Commission,” the President stated.
The unionsfor their part, indicated that they wanted to negotiate directly with the government, to which Chivite replied that “education policy is the policy of the government of Navarre.” “Of course the president is not going to say anything different than what the Secretary of Education might propose,” which “doesn’t go on its own,” he added.
He further pointed out that “there are matters such as remuneration that need to be dealt with by the General Board. The Education Sector Board is not competent.”
