A British doctor devised an insidious plan to eliminate his mother’s potential heir: disguised as a nurse, he allegedly injected his mother’s partner with a poison that gave the victim a rare and life-threatening flesh-eating disease.
“Sometimes the truth really is stranger than fiction,” the prosecutor said at the opening of the trial of 53-year-old Thomas Kwan. The GP is accused of posing as a nurse and wears a wig, mustache and goatee.
Victim thought she was receiving a corona vaccination
He injected his mother’s partner, Patrick O’Hara (71), with poison – the victim thought he had received a corona booster vaccination during the ‘caregiver’ home visit. Therefore, Kwan must answer the attempted murder charge in New Castle court.
It was clear that the suspect was concerned about money. His mother’s long-term partner is a ‘potential obstacle’ to him inheriting her assets. “His plan was to kill the man in front of everyone, right in front of his own mother, the man’s partner,” prosecutor Peter Makepeace told the jury.
In this post you can see how Kwan in his disguise was also captured by a video surveillance camera:
For his complicated plan, Kwan posed in letters as an employee of the British National Health Service and offered the victim an appointment for a corona vaccination. Then he disguised himself: “Of course he had to do that. What he is about to do now, he is doing in the presence of his own mother, in the presence of a man who knew him and who he knows,” the prosecutor said.
Mother even had her blood pressure measured by the “nurse”.
And what’s more: neither his mother nor her partner recognized the suspect with his surgical gloves, mask and tinted glasses when he came on a ‘home visit’. The couple had no suspicions and did not even ask about the man’s identity. The mother even had the ‘caretaker’ take her blood pressure without realizing she was sitting across from her son.
Arm full of blisters the next day
When O’Hara received the vaccination, he immediately felt “terrible pain,” but the nurse assured him it was normal. But the pain worsened and by the next day O’Hara’s arm was blistered and discolored. His doctor sent him to hospital, but doctors there were initially unclear about what was wrong with the 73-year-old.
It was eventually discovered that O’Hara suffered from a rare and life-threatening disease called necrotizing fasciitis. A bacterial infection in which the affected tissue dies. He had to have parts of his arm removed and the patient was in intensive care for weeks. Eventually the police discovered the son-in-law. Several chemicals were discovered in his garage, including liquid mercury, thallium, sulfuric acid and arsenic.
Kwan admitted administering a harmful substance, but claimed his intention was only to cause his victim “mild pain or discomfort.” However, the prosecutor believes that it was an attempted murder; the trial will continue, according to the Guardian.
