Serious incident Saturday night in the Margareten district of Vienna: a 24-year-old suspect, wearing only his underpants, had rioted in the street. When police arrived on the scene, the aggressive man remained furious, yelling at officers to shoot him and even trying to get hold of one of the service weapons. Two police officers were injured in the arrest of the drug suspect.
The police had warned the alleged perpetrator’s girlfriend, one year older. At around 2:30 a.m., she reported to the police that her boyfriend was throwing tantrums. He was previously said to have used a “large amount of drugs”.
On the spot, in the Castelligasse, the officers found the suspect – only in his underpants – on the street. The 25-year-old was also with him. Attempts to calm the completely enraged 24-year-old failed, according to police.
Attempt to get weapon
Suddenly, the alleged perpetrator went on the attack and allegedly tried to snatch the service weapon from the holster of one of the police officers. The officers then used pepper spray, which had little effect. Together with other alarmed officers, the suspect was knocked down, restrained and arrested.
“During the official act, two police officers were injured,” said police spokesman Markus Dittrich. “They could not continue their service.”
