On “Navy Day” – Crimea: Staff of the Russian fleet attacked with a drone

Date:

According to Russian reports, the headquarters of the Black Sea Fleet in the city of Sevastopol on the Crimean peninsula, claimed by Ukraine, has been attacked by a drone. Five people were injured on Sunday, Sevastopol Governor Mikhail Rasvozhayev said in his Telegram blog. The drone had hit a courtyard in the headquarters. Russia annexed Crimea in 2014.

“This morning Ukrainian nationalists have decided to spoil our Naval Day,” Razvozhayev wrote. Day celebrations observed in many regions of Russia have been canceled for Sevastopol. Russian authorities in regions bordering Ukraine repeatedly complain about attacks from the neighboring country.

According to preliminary information, the target of the attack was a drone, Rasvoschaev said. The injured are employees of the Russian Black Sea Fleet. There are no deaths. “I ask you to remain calm and stay at home if possible,” the governor wrote. The domestic secret service FSB is working to clarify the case.

Russian President Vladimir Putin inspects a parade of warships, planes and thousands of soldiers in Saint Petersburg on Sunday for “Navy Day”. The Kremlin chief also used the traditional event as a demonstration of power, more than five months after the start of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine. In different regions of Russia, parades are planned in honor of the naval forces and their various fleets.
