A judge at the regional civil court in Vienna wants to find out how the 12-year-old sports talent could have been seriously injured on a crowded public bus a year ago. Apparently, despite resistance, the door did not stop opening.
An unusual accident on September 18, 2023 in Vienna is now the subject of the Regional Civil Court. His circumstances are also causing concern among experts. Larissa S., multiple Austrian youth artistic gymnastics champion, was on her way to training with school colleagues.
As the “Krone” reported, the twelve-year-old stopped at the yellow stop bar of public bus 77A. When the bus door opened at a station, Larissa’s arm shifted until it broke painfully and complicatedly. “The bus was full of bombs,” the girl told the judge during the trial. She held on to the pole because there were no more seats and at 1.40 meters she was too small for the straps.
The bus driver was focused on what was happening outside
“In the second station the door opened and hit me in the elbow. Then I saw my hand hanging down and I collapsed. I have never felt so much pain.” – According to a sports colleague, the door suddenly opened and did not stop when it hit the student’s arm.
As a witness, the driver did not want to confirm that the bus was very full. He states that in the stations he has to concentrate on what is happening at the stop: “I opened the door normally and immediately heard the scream.” He doesn’t know if there are safety sensors when the door is opened.
Sign with the inscription: “Keep performances free”
Dr. Richard’s lawyer has only one question for Larissa: “Have you spoken to your parents about the transport conditions?” – The talented athlete looks at him questioningly. “We talked about not shouting and not behaving on the bus.”
Before the trial, the lawyer also pointed out a sign mounted on the bus. “Keep appearances free,” it says. “Do you know what that means?” asks Larissa’s lawyer Johannes Öhlböck. “No,” she shakes her head.
The specific bus was sold
To obtain information about the course of the accident, an inspection will take place on October 10. However: The specific bus no longer exists. He was sold.
