A seven-year-old from Steyr became a lifesaver at the outdoor pool in Garsten in Upper Austria on Sunday afternoon. He raised the alarm when he saw a toddler floating in the pool.
A three-year-old girl from Steyr was also in the outdoor pool that day with her 29-year-old mother. At about 5 p.m., the mother was caring for her eight-month-old daughter and did not notice the three-year-old running away from her. She should have put down her water wings on her own and gone to the family pool. About ten minutes later, the seven-year-old saw the girl floating on her stomach in the water.
Mäderl was still conscious
He immediately informed his mother and a 34-year-old friend from Steyr. She immediately ran to the family pool and pulled the girl out of the water. The three-year-old was still conscious and coughed up water. After emergency medical care, she was taken to Steyr Hospital for observation.
