Two alpinists have again misjudged the weather and snow conditions in the Tyrolean mountains. The surrounding mountain rescue service had to rescue the duo from the Absam via ferrata on Saturday.
The demanding Absamer via ferrata to the Bettelwurfhütte in the Karwendel was too difficult for a German (24) and an Israeli (21). Moreover, the two’s tour planning went completely wrong. You probably didn’t read the weather forecast properly.
Snowfall when getting out
The duo started in Halltal (Innsbruck-Land district) around 11 a.m. on Saturday, climbed the via ferrata and reached the exit around 5:40 p.m. There was 30 centimeters of fresh snow there and it was snowing too.
Exhausted, disoriented
The men could not find the path to the Bettelwurfhütte and were too exhausted to get there on their own. The overwhelmed alpinists lost their orientation and therefore raised the alarm around 5:50 p.m.
Mountain rescuers took the duo to the Bettelwurfhütte
So the mountain rescue in the Hall area went up and found the duo in the area where the via ferrata emerged. The emergency services cared for the exhausted people and brought them safely through the snow to the Bettelwurfhütte (2077 m).
