If the driver had not driven so unsafely, a police patrol in Upper Austria would probably not have stopped the car at all. Fearing a fine because he does not yet have a driver’s license, the 28-year-old and his passenger came up with the brilliant idea to quickly switch seats. But the officials were not fooled.
Around 9:30 am on Monday, a police patrol spotted a driver driving in winding lines on the B 127 in the municipality of Puchenau.
As the officers moved their patrol car in front of the car to stop them, the car behind them slowed down. The officers stopped the vehicle and could see through the rearview mirror as the car slowly rolled up the curb.
When the police officers got out, a 31-year-old man from Leonding immediately came up to them and handed them their driver’s license. He posed as a driver. Furthermore, a man from Linz (28), who was clearly identified by the officers as the driver, suddenly sat in the passenger seat of the car.
Confession on the spot
The men initially insisted that the 31-year-old was driving. In the course of the official proceedings, the two were then forced to admit that the 28-year-old was actually driving and had switched places in the car with the passenger.
The motive for their action: The 28-year-old is currently studying for his driving test and does not yet have a driver’s license. He was forbidden to continue his journey. An advertisement follows.
