Birgit suffered from bleeding and pain for two years and became increasingly withdrawn. A hysterectomy brought relief – but then a piece of femininity is also missing? The “Krone” asked around and spoke to experts.
Birgit was in her mid-40s when she suddenly started having problems with her periods: “It was completely irregular, I had constant pain and bleeding between periods,” says the mother of a teenage daughter. During an examination, her gynecologist discovered fibroids (benign tumors) and tried to control the problems by changing the pill and giving her hormones. When that didn’t help, the now 47-year-old switched to the 3-month injection – after which the situation completely went off the rails.
