Tenants of the Karl-Wrba-Hof in Vienna-Favoriten complain about vandalism and litter. This causes sleepless nights. The ÖVP calls for rapid support.
It has been a long time since Mrs. N. has slept through the night. Youth gangs are to blame and literally terrorize the tenants of the Karl-Wrba-Hof. “I have been living here for 25 years, but lately it has been getting worse,” reports N. The door of her apartment is regularly kicked in or eggs are thrown. Finally a stone flew through the window. “My child and I are just more afraid,” says the tenant. She has often thought about moving, but that is not possible while her daughter still lives with her. The nearest police station is next door but closes at 7pm.
Waste in the hallways attracts vermin
But that is not the only problem with community building in Favoriten. The extreme pollution also causes problems for residents. The walls are sprayed, the waste is not deposited in the waste room, but in the middle of the facility. This attracts pests; N. didn’t even find a dead rat in the hallway. “The problem is that there are many migrants living here who cannot read the signs,” says the Viennese.
The tenant receives support from the ÖVP. “The conditions described to me in the residential complex in the 10th district are unbearable: the residents need urgent help,” said Karl Mahrer, chairman of the ÖVP state party.
Wiener Wohnen says: “Wiener Wohnen is aware of the waste problem in Karl-Wrba-Hof and this is mainly due to the careless use of the waste dumps by some residents. Law enforcement officers patrol the residential complex several times a week and are also authorized to issue fines. We have not received any reports of youth gangs active in the residential complex.”
