5 states in 2 days – Zelenskyj on tour through Europe, first stop in London

Date:

Volodymyr Zelenskyy is about to embark on a marathon tour of European countries on Thursday and Friday. In two days, the Ukrainian president will visit five countries. The first stop was Great Britain, followed by France, Italy and Germany. An audience with the Pope is also on the program.

On Thursday morning, Zelensky was greeted with a hug by Prime Minister Keir Starmer at London’s government headquarters in Downing Street. The new NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte also took part in the conversation.

Zelensky is also expected to visit Paris in the afternoon before traveling to Rome for an evening meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. An audience with Pope Francis is scheduled for Friday before Zelenskyj comes to Berlin, where he wants to meet Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

During the tour of European capitals, the Ukrainian president will likely be interested in further military support to defend against Russia’s war of aggression. The Ukrainian president is also demanding permission from Western allies to use long-range weapons against targets on Russian territory.

Ukraine summit canceled due to Hurricane Milton
Zelensky actually wanted to participate in the meeting of the Ukrainian Contact Group of 50 allied states of Kiev scheduled for Saturday at the air base in Ramstein (Rhineland-Palatinate), to which US President Joe Biden had invited. Biden canceled his visit to Germany at short notice due to Hurricane Milton. The summit was subsequently postponed indefinitely.
