In the north of the Israeli metropolis of Tel Aviv, a siren alarm went off due to an invading aircraft.
“The sirens were activated following an intrusion by an enemy aircraft in several areas in central Israel,” the Israeli army said on Friday evening. They could be heard in the city of Herzliya. About twenty minutes after the alarm, the Israeli army reported the end of the incident.
The exact circumstances of the incident are currently under investigation, the military said. Accordingly, “interception attempts were made” so that “additional explosions” caused by the interception or debris could possibly be heard.
The incident struck the country on its national holiday. Yom Kippur, also known as the Feast of Atonement, is celebrated in Israel since sunset.
A battle on two fronts
The Israeli army is currently fighting on two fronts: against the pro-Iranian Hezbollah militia in Lebanon and against the allied radical Islamic Palestinian organization Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Hezbollah and Hamas, along with other militant groups, are part of the Iranian-led “Axis of Resistance” directed against Israel.
In early October, Iran attacked Israel for the second time this year with numerous missiles, most of which were intercepted. Israel announced retaliatory measures.
