Reconstruction in Hangar 7 – Mateschitz Gourmet Temple must move

Date:

Hangar 7 will be renovated from the end of January. The gastronomic restaurant “Ikarus” and its bar will remain open during this period. But in a different place – at a dizzying height.

Hangar-7 celebrated its twentieth anniversary in the summer of 2023. There was plenty of reason for this: the concept of flying guest chefs from all over the world to the in-house gourmet restaurant “Ikarus” is still very popular among culinary fans today.

Not so prestigious anymore: the glass hangar, which is getting a bit old on some corners. And that’s the best part Mateschitz-Empire is known for being just good enough, is now being renovated and expanded. The gala with the presentation of the Michelin stars on January 21, 2025 will be the last major event in Hangar-7 for a long time. The renovation will start at the end of January. This is expected to take three months.

In addition to maintenance and modernization work, more space is also being created around the existing building. The outdoor lounge, which is currently not completely wind and weather resistant, will be expanded. Extensions are also planned in the kitchen. Visually, the new elements must of course fit into the existing glass architecture that is typical of Hangar-7.

Employees can expect a major change during the three months of construction work. For her, it will soon no longer be only in the culinary field that she will reach unimaginable heights: her future workplace will be on the Untersberg. To be precise, on the Wolfschwang Alm.

Since 2022, the state fighter champion has been working on the site Max Mayr-Melnhof heard, not much more. The hitherto popular excursion destination lay fallow after the old tenant was evicted. “Sad but true, the Wolfschwang chapter remains closed,” Mayr-Melnhof said at the time.

Now, at least for a few months, a new era is dawning during the renovation. The aim is to take the guests to the alpine hut with a shuttle and return them safely to the city after a hearty meal.

The Mayday bar in Hangar-7 is also moving. However, she will not pitch her tent on the mountain meadow, but in the center of Salzburg. It will be small but nice: the restaurant seats only about 20 people. There should mainly be standing room there.
