An alcoholic driver had an accident on Sunday night on the southern highway near Schäffern in the Hartberg-Fürstenfeld district. The cars of four uninvolved drivers were damaged by flying vehicle parts.
The 33-year-old from the Bruck-Mürzzuschlag district drove his car towards Vienna around 4:25 am. For an unknown reason, he crashed into a concrete barrier at mile 87 of the road.
Bystanders were unharmed
Four subsequent vehicles were destroyed by flying parts, but fortunately the drivers were unharmed.
The person who caused the accident was slightly injured in the impact and was taken by ambulance to LKH Oberwart. An alcohol test was positive.
Closure for one hour due to sea of rubble
The A2 had to be completely closed for an hour and the Pinggau volunteer fire brigade had its hands full getting the highway open again. There were disruptions on the diversion route.
