A climber in the Tyrolean Unterland apparently completely overestimated himself on Wednesday: The 55-year-old German only wanted to climb a via ferrata in Walchsee (Kufstein district) when he suddenly lost his strength. A cyclist finally heard a cry for help and raised the alarm.
The Ottenalm-Direttissima is considered the most difficult via ferrata in the via ferrata park in the Ottenalm area in Walchsee. The 55-year-old German only wanted to conquer this on Wednesday – and must have hopelessly underestimated the tour.
Cyclist heard screaming coming from the wall
“About 30 meters below the exit, the man suddenly lost his strength in a difficult passage, after which he was unable to climb and shouted for help on the wall,” police said.
Mountain rescuers arrived after an emergency call
A cyclist passing near the climbing wall heard the screams and immediately made an emergency call. As a result, the German was rescued by the alarmed mountain rescue service and brought to safety unharmed.
