After secret leaks, the element of surprise is still on Israel’s side

Date:

A recently announced data breach from the US is causing an international stir. Reportedly, secret information about Israel’s military plans against Iran may have come to light. But how serious is the situation? Security expert Walter Feichtinger faces the situation calmly: “The element of surprise is still on the Israeli side,” he emphasizes.

According to Feichtinger, Israel would not have lost a decisive military advantage despite the possible leak. “Israel continues to have a free hand in how it would act in a potential conflict against Iran – whether through missiles, air strikes or intelligence operations. The Israelis are also completely free in the choice of their means of combat,” Feichtinger explains. The conflict between Iran and Israel continues to escalate and according to the security expert, an escalation is imminent. In an interview with krone.tv, he emphasized: “Iran considers Israel a mortal enemy and has pursued the clear goal of destroying Israel since the 1971 revolution.”

This hostility is deeply entrenched in Iranian state strategy and is systematically pursued. Feichtinger emphasizes that Iran is not directly involved in the battle, but uses its allies in the north and south of Israel: “Iran is doing everything it can to damage and challenge Israel. At the same time, so is the mullahs’ regime .” show restraint because it knows what is going on with the internal weaknesses in your own country. “There is a certain fear about the mullah regime because they know that they are not in a strong position politically,” Feichtinger explains. A massive defeat by Israel could mean the fall of the regime.

Militarily, Iran is numerically superior: “Iran has superiority in tanks, aircraft and missiles,” but much of it is outdated and not ready for use. “But Israel is much better in terms of quality,” says Feichtinger. The decisive factor, however, is US support: “The bigger plus on the Israeli side is that the US is at the back and would support in case of doubt.”

Death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar
The death of Yahya Sinwar, a leading figure in Hamas, is causing strong reactions in the Middle East. Could his death have a fundamental impact on the conflict in the Middle East? “I don’t assume that he can fundamentally change the conflict himself.” Sinwar was a “charismatic figure”, but his death mainly creates a new dynamic within Hamas, the security expert said. Feichtinger explains: “If the top boss suddenly leaves in such a crisis situation, it creates uncertainty and confusion.” It can now be particularly difficult to find a successor who is accepted by everyone. Rivalry could break out.

Symbolic power should not be underestimated
Despite the targeted “beheading attack” by Israel, Sinwar’s death has a strong symbolic impact that should not be underestimated in the region: “He is already being declared a martyr in other countries. This symbolic power remains, and may have been somewhat underestimated on the Israeli side. Israel has focused on eliminating leading figures of Hamas and Hezbollah to weaken the organizations. Whether this will lead to a change or even new negotiations remains to be seen, Feichtinger says. “Sinwar was considered a hardliner, and now we will see who will follow.”
