Meloni’s government adopts the decree to protect its immigrant centers in Albania

Date:

Italian justice last week ordered a halt to the deportation plan and return of migrants held in Albania.

Giorgia Meloni’s Italian government on Monday approved a decree to establish by law the list of “safe countries” from which immigrants come, protecting their controversial detention centers in Albania.

The strategy consists of shielding the list of safe countries, that is to say, the countries from which an immigrant does not have to escape, whereby these types of decrees with the force of law, used in moments of ’emergency or urgency’, must be implemented within 60 days reconfirmed by Parliament.

Meloni is responding to the Italian justice’s decision to vacate the detention center in Albania, where twelve immigrants from Egypt and Bangladesh remained, and to force their transfer to Italy, which has outraged the executive.
