The trial of the 31-year-old woman who started a devastating fire in an apartment building in Villach ended Wednesday with a conviction: the woman wanted to kill her husband and also endanger the life of the four children. She is sentenced to 14 years in prison for this. The conviction is not final.
On the second day of the trial, Amina A. was still unable to give the true motives for her actions. Because no one can explain why the mother of four children started a fire in which the children could have died between the ages of two and nine. The fire expert even emphasized how precarious the situation was for children: “The smoke penetrates all rooms. And even when smoke detectors go off – sleeping children often don’t hear them!”
Therefore, the little ones would have had special guardian angels to make sure nothing happened to them – and except for the accused, no one else was harmed.
“I’ve been working in the fire service for 40 years and as an appraiser for 20 years, but I’ve never seen anything like it,” says expert Peter Anderwald. “The entire building could have caught fire from the firestorm.” With dozens of residents!
Amina A. remains as calm about the conviction as during the trial: she has to spend 14 years behind bars for attempted murder, not final.
