On Wednesday evening, the peace in a thermal hotel in the Güssing district suddenly ended. A fire caused an alarm. A large contingent of emergency services arrived. The entire guesthouse had to be evacuated to protect the holidaymakers.
The guests of the Puchas-PLUS Thermenhotel Puchas-PLUS in Stegersbach had imagined this evening very differently. From one second to the next the relaxation was over. According to initial reports, a fire broke out in the laundry room. It was suspected that a technical defect was the cause.
Room tidied up
Smoke from the laundry room quickly wafted through the building. The hotel had to be evacuated for safety reasons. More than a hundred guests – some dressed in bathrobes or nightgowns – immediately left the house, escorted by police.
Responded quickly
Five fire brigades were deployed in and around the hotel. The source of the fire was quickly located and the situation brought under control. “Everything went smoothly. There were no injuries as a result of the fire,” was the conclusion after a short time.
Walk to the emergency shelter
The mayor of Stegersbach, Jürgen Dolesch, was courageous. He was able to quickly find alternative accommodation for the thermal hotel guests and organize overnight stays. The holidaymakers reached their emergency accommodation on foot.
