A woman died after an operation in the clinic. The anesthetic used was contaminated and caused sepsis. The anesthetist will be charged.
He was already in court in Wr. Neustadt (Lower Austria), the 64-year-old anesthetist who is believed to have caused the death of one woman and seriously injured two others with a contaminated anesthetic. He took home an opened bottle of propofol – although this should be thrown away immediately.
The next day, the women were given this drug during their fertility treatment. According to the indictment, it was contaminated with an intestinal bacteria – the patients suffered from sepsis.
“I’m sorry” for everything, the accused doctor said, “but my behavior certainly did not lead to death,” he said. He is now doing the same in the new trial for fatal bodily harm – sentences range from one to 15 years in prison: “I have been a doctor for 35 years without a single incident.”
No E. coli in Propofol
His lawyer Michael Dohr has many questions. So he had the propofol tested in a special lab in Munich (D) – no trace of E. coli bacteria! And according to Dohr, the clinic did not hand over the surgical instruments that were used to the police or the AKH for inspection. But a new one in the original packaging.
Postponed due to new expert advice regarding blood counts and inflammation values.
