Heavy rain hit large parts of the province of Pisa in Tuscany on Saturday night. Streams burst their banks and flooded streets and houses. Cars were swept away by the water and the drivers had to be rescued by the fire brigade.
According to the Pisa fire brigade, fifteen people were rescued from the roofs of cars or from the canals into which they had fallen. The community of Riparbella near Pisa was particularly affected. Mayor Salvatore Neri explained that more rain has never fallen here than ever before in three hours. The fire brigade was busy pumping the water out of the houses.
