The drive home late at night ends tragically for a young driver in Carinthia around 2am on Sunday. The 17-year-old appears to lose control of his car, goes off the road and overturns.
At 2 a.m. the sirens sounded in the upper Mölltal: a 17-year-old from the Spittal district was on his way home on the B107 and suddenly drove off the road near Mörtschach. “The vehicle rolled over several times and the driver was trapped,” police said.
At the scene of the accident it soon becomes clear that the young man cannot be removed so easily from his badly damaged car. “He had to be freed by the fire brigade using rescue scissors,” police said. Only then can the emergency physician treat the 17-year-old’s serious injuries until he is ready for transport.
The rescue eventually takes the man to the Lienz district hospital. During the operation itself, troops from East Tyrol and Carinthia worked together: the fire brigades Heiligenblut, Großkirchheim, Mörtschach and Winklern, the police and rescue service from Winklern and the rescue and emergency doctor from Lienz.
Shortly afterwards a similar accident
This time, a 17-year-old probationary driver’s license holder was caught near Wolfsberg. He also lost control of his car, left the road and overturned several times. But alcohol is involved and he is able to free himself and even go home. “His mother then started the rescue chain and he was taken to LKH Wolfsberg with injuries of an undetermined nature,” the police said. “A breath test performed was positive. The driver’s license has been confiscated.”
