Meat OK – coliforms: McDonald’s is selling hamburgers again

Date:

Fast food chain McDonald’s has temporarily removed chopped onions and the so-called Quarter Pounder Burger from its range after an outbreak of coliform bacteria. After the meat samples were all in order, the American counterpart of the Hamburger Royal is available again.

Testing by the Colorado State Agriculture Department showed that the beef patties used for the burger were not contaminated with the bacteria as feared, the company announced Sunday. After customers suffered food poisoning, the burger was removed from the menu at branches in twelve states.

In Colorado, an elderly person even died from the infection. 75 cases of foodborne illness have been identified across the country. According to authorities, most of the sick people said they had eaten a ‘Quarter Pounder’.

Burger is now served without onions
It was also suspected that the chopped onions served with the burger were contaminated with the bacteria. McDonald’s also announced that onion supplier Taylor Farms would no longer supply the company indefinitely. The 900 stores that received their onions from the supplier would currently sell the “Quarter Pounder” without onions.
