What a day for the mayor of Arnreit! As a result of the terrible massacre caused by a hunter, Heinz Kobler lost a respected citizen of his community, Josef H., and a friendly colleague, Franz Hofer, the mayor of Kirchberg ob der Donau. Now, as a police officer, he goes on the hunt for the perpetrator himself.
This is probably one of the most difficult days in Heinz Kobler’s life. The ÖVP mayor of Arnreit has not only lost a colleague in Franz Hofer (local boss in Kirchberg ob der Donau), but also a deserving citizen of his community in Josef H. (second victim). “Sepp only returned from a long rehabilitation stay a few days ago. “He was fit again and full of energy,” says Kobler in an interview with “Krone”.
Involved in the search for the perpetrator
But Kobler initially had little time on Monday to arrange his agenda as mayor. Because he is a police officer by profession and has been involved in the search for the suspected murderer since the early morning hours. “It is of course special, but that is just how it is,” he says. Obviously he knew the victim Josef H. very well.
“Worked together”
“His family has lived in the city for a long time. He was a hunt leader in Arnreit for many years and, like me, a police officer. I worked with him before he retired,” Kobler said. He also knows fugitive Roland Drexler (56) well and was aware of the conflicts between the two men. There were always discussions and arguments between Drexler and Josef H., but they were about hunting matters.
