EU’s chief diplomat: – North Korea must stop supporting Putin

Date:

EU chief diplomat Josep Borrell calls on North Korea to end possible support for Russia’s war efforts against Ukraine. “North Korea’s continued military support for Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine will be met with an appropriate response,” he said.

“The European Union is coordinating on this issue with its international partners, including responses.” It is a unilateral, hostile act by North Korea with serious consequences for peace and security in Europe and globally, the EU’s foreign policy chief said.

North Korea supplies weapons and ammunition
Borrell said recent reports about the presence of North Korean troops on Russian territory in support of Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin’s war of aggression against Ukraine had been confirmed to him by the European intelligence center INTCEN. North Korea has supplied weapons and ammunition to Russia.

“Sharp violation of the UN Charter”
“The presence of several thousand soldiers working with the Russian military represents a blatant violation of the UN Charter and several UN Security Council resolutions,” Borrell said. He will travel to Japan and South Korea this week for talks.

Pentagon: 10,000 North Koreans in Russia
About 10,000 troops have been sent from North Korea to Russia, according to U.S. Defense Department estimates. Some of them started moving to the Kursk region, near the border with Ukraine. If they were used in combat, it would be very concerning, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said.
