“Patients diverted” – climate protest: rescue efforts did not reach the AKH

Date:

The climate sticker roadblocks had a worrying side effect on Wednesday: the emergency access roads to the AKH had to be closed due to the traffic jams they caused. “Patients were diverted,” the Vienna Professional Rescue Service said.

It may not have been her intention, but there has to be a line somewhere. Activists from the Last Generation blocked several streets in Vienna again on Wednesday. On Karlsplatz and at the Gurtel.

“A traffic jam near the Währinger Belt/Sechsschimmelgasse intersection created a backlog that extended beyond the emergency entrance to the Vienna General Hospital. The Vienna Professional Rescue Service and the Vienna Health Association responded immediately. The rescue teams were informed about the traffic obstruction by radio and took the patients to other hospitals,” explains Corina Had from the Vienna Professional Rescue Service.

The rescue service does not want to go into detail about how long the lockdown lasted and how many patients had to be taken to other clinics.

“As is always the case with such ‘re-routings’, this remained in effect until the traffic disruptions were resolved,” it said.

“As always, we informed the control center half an hour before the blockade. It is not our intention that patients can no longer come to the hospital,” a Last Generation spokesperson explains. It is said that this does not change the tactics of the street occupations.

On the contrary: unable to address their concerns, the eco-warriors have announced a tougher approach. They have stopped “cooperating” with the police. This means that activists will only get carried away in the future.

In concrete terms, this means that from Wednesday we will no longer go to the arrest van independently and will no longer be involved in the arrest. We will continue to show our IDs, but will not actively cooperate with the police,” the report said.

A preliminary peak in the Vienna wave has been announced for Friday. About 100 activists want to meet at the Praterstern at 2 p.m. And block roads.
