A year ago, on Pentecost, actor Peter Simonischek died of cancer. His wife Brigitte Karner was by his side until the end. The widow talks to Conny Bischofberger about the hour of death, painful and beautiful memories, a long journey back to herself and her book ‘Life without Him’.
Where do you meet to talk about dying? Brigitte Karner presents ‘Mama Leone’ in Vienna’s Schellinggasse, one of the Huth family’s restaurants. She lived around the corner from Peter Simonischek. “And they also have the tastiest pizza there,” she says enthusiastically with lots of smileys on WhatsApp. When we meet, she is wearing black, “but that was a coincidence today,” and has her new book under her arm.
