Where emergency vehicles have dominated the cityscape of Altenfelden since Monday, local churchgoers were finally able to park again on Sunday. After the horrific double murder and days of persecution, the community of 2,500 people is trying to take a step back to normality.
“It was like a movie, a week of distress. There’s just a lot of relief now. “The uncertainty is finally coming to an end,” the collective sigh of relief was noticeable at the local inspection “Krone” on Sunday morning in Altenfelden.
All Saints visit made up for
Where police cars and special emergency vehicles had dominated the cityscape since Monday, local license plates could finally be seen. People dared to come out again and went to church. There they could bring their fears and concerns of the past few days to God. And many also had to make up for the All Saints visit to the grave of their loved ones.
Because when Roland Drexler’s car arrived on Friday morning, the All Saints’ Day service and the blessing of graves in the four affected communities were canceled on the orders of BH Rohrbach.
“Tied up for days”
“I didn’t go out much last week, I just felt uneasy. “I just lit a new candle at the cemetery,” says Ernst Sch., who is a hunter himself and therefore knew the double murderer well. In his sermon, Pastor Rupert Granegger spoke about love and how everyone was “captivated for days by the events around us.”
Praise for the emergency services
At the end, he wished the churchgoers “a relaxing Sunday and a good start to the new week.” Mayor Klaus Gatringer also took part in the service and hopes normality will soon return to the community of 2,500 people. Many thanks and praise were expressed for the numerous emergency services on site: “They did an excellent job. We always felt safe.”
