Slope almost 45 degrees – the stroller ramp became a steep “death slope”

Date:

One thing is clear: expanding the Northern Railway to improve international rail transport is not an easy matter. It is currently Strasshof’s turn in the Gänserndorf district: tunnel construction there, however, poses major challenges for the ÖBB. The solution currently being built for a ‘division of the city’ is astonishing and at the same time exceeds the limits of the citizens’ nerves.

The report on the supposed improvement of the already controversial “temporary solution” that separates Strasshof into two parts because of the railway construction site provoked numerous reactions. After repeated protests from NEOS, the ÖVP is now letting off steam: “A life-threatening farce” is the statement – including the photo (see above right): “Pushing strollers, not to mention wheelchairs or walkers, is extremely dangerous and physically harmful. Effort is hardly reasonable.” In addition, the wooden steps are very slippery even when dry.

Reader has suggestions for improvement for ÖBB planners
In fact, one reader even has a suggestion as to how part of the workaround could have been solved in a completely different way: “A barrier system would have been the solution. This would hardly incur any costs, as the abandoned crossing was equipped with a barrier system that was no longer needed. This only had to be moved 100 meters.”

Extension of the driveway appears to be planned
Due to the many protests, the ÖBB is trying to find a solution: “The stroller ramp is currently being tested – it will only be released if safety is unconditionally guaranteed,” it says in response to a request from “Krone”. “Moving a level crossing includes all operational control and safety systems including permits – even if it is only 100 meters,” is the reader’s suggestion.
