The Democratic nominee has stressed the importance of a “peaceful” transition of power and urged him to serve as president “for all Americans.”
US Vice President and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris called former Republican President Donald Trump (2017-2021) on Wednesday to congratulate him on his victory in Tuesday’s elections, in which he won after a tight campaign.
The Democratic campaign has reported that in this conversation about admitting defeat, the candidate has emphasized the importance of a ‘peaceful’ transition of powers and to serve as president “for all Americans”.
That call took place shortly before Harris went to Howard University to address the nation and comment on the results.
This intervention was supposed to take place on Tuesday at the end of election day, but was postponed until Wednesday because votes were still being counted and there were states that had not yet been decided.
By then, Harris’s disadvantage against Trump was clear, and the crowds who came to the university center in northwest Washington where she studied had virtually abandoned him.
According to CNN or AP media forecasts, and waiting for the recount in the key states of Nevada and Arizonahas already reached Trump 293 out of 270 delegates of the Electoral College had to declare himself the winner, compared to Harris’ 224.
