An accident occurred on Wednesday evening at the Allentsteig military training area in Waldviertel (Lower Austria). Eight soldiers were on the road between the Liechtenstein barracks and the Kaufholz camp. The driver veered off the road in fog and crashed into an embankment. Four soldiers were taken to hospital.
The modern VW bus of the Austrian army made the emergency call at 6.48 pm on Wednesday evening when the transporter left the road. The 61-year-old driver turned right off the road in the fog at the Allentsteig military training area (TÜPl) in the direction of Kaufholz camp.
He drove over an embankment and came to a stop in the bushes. The accident took place between the Liechtenstein barracks and the Kaufholz camp.
Four soldiers were injured
There were eight soldiers on board the bus, four of whom were military servants. They were taken to Horn State Hospital with unknown injuries. The driver and the other three cadre soldiers were unharmed. An alcohol test showed that the driver had not consumed alcohol.
After the health check, the military officers are already back in Allentsteig. They suffered minor injuries in the form of bruises and are allowed to perform limited duties.
