The association “Save Cats! Yes we can!” In the lower Austria, the doors of a “beautiful” cat house is open for wounded, sick and pregnant animals. Founder Mareike Schnabl focuses on medical care, castration and education as central building blocks in the fight against Cat Elelend.
In the middle of the picturesque vineyards of Langenlois in Lower Austria, a white house with golden cat heads stands out on the facade. On June 5, the new cat house of the association “Save Cats! Yes we can!” Open – still without velvet leg so that they can escape the crowds and crowds. However, they will soon withdraw: wounded stray cats, boulders, pregnant velvet legs and sick animals that have often experienced a lot of suffering.
Safe gate for cats in need
The heart behind the new Cat House project beats under the name Mareike Schnab. Designer, maker, animal rights activist. At the end of 2023 she acquired the building that is needed to have renovation and renovated it extensively with a lot of attention to detail – alone and with helping hands. “I wanted to create a house that gives the animals and warmth,” says Schnab at the opening of the Cat Refuge.
Five cat rooms, a quarantine station with a treatment table, a cat bath – the new house is not an animal shelter, but a temporary hope of hope. Because Mareike Schnabl knows: “Feeding alone does not help. It needs castration and medical care”.
Strong team in the fight against the Cat Pyramid
Her motto: “Castriere 1, Save 100!” The public sector cannot manage the problem alone. Schnab’s solution: education, meeting, cooperation with communities. In the long term, the house must also serve as an event location and the educational center.
All this is only possible via a strong network of helpers. Vet Melanie Hetzer is also to reach midnight. CAT behavior expert Claudia Jascha advises on uncleanness or integration problems. The small team is with time, energy and heart behind Mareike Schnab.
Praise from the official side
Lower Austria’s animal welfare councilor Susanne Rosenkanz was also deeply impressed by the opening: “How we deal with animals reflects our society.” She thanked Mareike Schnab and her devoted team for her tireless efforts and continued to promote the support of the civil servant.
Mareike Schnabl says with a moving voice: “Two years ago I sent a request to the universe – I was looking for a suitable house for my protégés.” Nowadays it is: clear white, lovingly decorated, decorated with golden cat heads. A place for wounded bodies, broken souls – and for people who prefer to act than complain. Because those who castrate a stray cat prevents immeasurable suffering. And if you give an animal a new home, you may not change the whole world – but certainly that of a single living creature!
