Accusations against a senior police officer from Linz that he bullied a top official in chats and conversations are now having consequences. The Upper Austrian police leadership is said to have been aware of the allegations for more than a year.
“Dive station” is the order from the Ministry of the Interior to the upper management of the police in Upper Austria – in the case of an officer accused of bullying, they reserved the right to speak in Vienna.
Several colleagues are said to have been affected
Because the allegations also affect the country’s top police officers. They are said to have been aware of inappropriate and derogatory behavior towards colleagues – and not just women – for at least a year from various sources. Other officers representing suspected affected subordinates also urged action, but nothing was done.
Escalated after position was awarded
One of the accusations stands out. A year ago, after a position had been awarded – the officer and a colleague had applied, both were equally qualified, but the woman was given priority – there were ‘exaggerated and underhanded’ WhatsApp messages that included sexual insults.
It is said that leadership was aware of this
Since the messages received by State Police Commander Andreas Pilsl and his deputies were not fruitful, anonymous reports were filed with the Ministry of the Interior a month ago. A five-member commission was set up and about 20 people were interviewed last week at state police headquarters under the obligation to tell the truth. The ministry confirms that an internal investigation into the allegations is underway.
The officer in question has now been assigned to Wels and is on holiday or sick leave.
