Fire alarm Saturday evening in Reutte in Ausserfern, Tyrol: A house where a mother lives with her son (17) burst into flames. The boy noticed the fire and immediately raised the alarm. The emergency services then fought the inferno. The teen and a firefighter had to be taken to the hospital.
The fire broke out in the house at the watering hole around 7:15 p.m. The fire was noticed by the 17-year-old resident, who had apparently just returned home with his mother.
Flames spread quickly
When the fire brigade arrived on the scene, the entrance area was already completely ablaze. “The flames then spread quite quickly – via the stairs to the first floor and partly to the roof,” says fire chief and operations manager Alexander Ammann, describing the dramatic scenes in an interview with “Krone”.
“Major firefighting operation”
The emergency services from Reutte fought against the flaming inferno with the support of the FF Breitenwang. “The operation was huge – with turntable ladders and respiratory protection teams. “We were able to get the fire under control very quickly,” Ammann continued. In total there were approximately 70 firefighters present.
According to the police, the 17-year-old resident who became aware of the fire had to be taken by ambulance to Reutte Hospital with suspected smoke poisoning. A young firefighter (22) also suffered injuries while extinguishing the fire.
Ammann: “The affected person belongs to the respiratory protection team. The fire caused the wooden balustrade on the first floor to break and he fell down the stairs. He was taken to hospital, where he remained overnight for observation. He can probably go home today, Sunday.”
House uninhabitable for the time being
The single-family home was severely damaged by the fire and is currently uninhabitable. Around 10 p.m. it was announced that the fire was out. After the fire watch, the last emergency services arrived around midnight. The police have started an investigation into the cause of the fire.
