Charges against former RAF terrorist Klette for 13 robberies

Date:

The Public Prosecution Service has filed a complaint against former RAF terrorist Daniela Klette: In connection with 13 robberies, she is accused of attempted murder, illegal possession of weapons and attempted and completed robbery with serious consequences.

The Public Prosecution Service of Verden has been investigating the 66-year-old and her alleged accomplices Ernst-Volker Staub and Burkhard Garweg for years, and the search for them continues. The trio allegedly robbed cash transporters and supermarkets in Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia and Schleswig-Holstein between 1999 and 2016 to finance their underground life. The suspects are also being investigated for attempted murder, because shots were fired during a robbery in the Lower Saxon town of Stuhr.

Kalashnikov and bazooka grenade found near Klette
The investigators also accuse Klette of violations of the Arms Act and the War Arms Control Act. When she was arrested on February 26, a Kalashnikov and a rocket-propelled grenade were found in the house. The presumption of innocence applies.

Daniela Klette belonged to the so-called third generation of the left-wing extremist Red Army Faction (RAF). In 1998, the RAF declared itself disbanded, killing more than thirty people. The crimes in the region did not have a terrorist background, the researchers emphasize.

The defense has pointed to shortcomings in the prosecution
The defense had previously criticized the investigation and pointed to significant shortcomings in the prosecution. The Verden Regional Court must now decide whether to accept the charges.
