The Basque Minister of Finance and Finance has indicated that he will submit a proposal to the opposition groups in the second round next week to negotiate the budgets. In any case, he reminded that PNV and PSE-EE have a majority and that “they do not have to agree with the parties.”
The Minister of Finance and Finance of the Basque Government, Noël D’Anjou, indicated on Friday that opposition groups are participating in the budget negotiations “without the hope” of reaching an agreement.
D’Anjou gave his assessment of the first round of competition which he held with Sumar, PP and EH Bildu to negotiate the Basque government’s 2025 budgets and has announced that he will hold a second meeting with these three opposition groups next week.
“We have the impression that they came to this first meeting without the hope of reaching an agreement.” the proposals that have been submitted to the board “They don’t have a lot of detail or a lot of development”he noted.
D’Anjou has considered this behavior of PP, Sumar and Bildu as “normal”, compared to the absolute majority of the PNV and PSE-EE. “Us we don’t have to agree with the parties, although our attitude will in any case be that of continue to try to reach an agreement with the different groups” he added.
“We are convinced that there can be meeting points, yes, always within the budgetary framework and within the scope of powers corresponding to the Basque government,” the counselor noted.
D’Anjou explained that he has “listened” to the opposition groups in this first round and is now “analyzing” their proposals in order to present them with a new offer next week. However, he did not want to clarify the content of the proposals he had received from the opposition parties, nor of the new offer he will present to them, as he understands that this must remain within the framework of the bilateral negotiations “out of institutional respect and respect for the parties.”
