Due to an engine failure on a cargo ship, Turkish authorities have suspended shipping traffic in the Dardanelles Strait until further notice. Salvage work is already underway.
State news agency Anadolu reported on Saturday that it was a ship flying the Liberian flag on its way from Romania to France. Three tugboats have already been sent to the cargo ship.
The nearly 290 meter long freighter Capt Nature sank near the Canakkale 1915 bridge. It was said that salvage operations in the strait were already underway.
The Dardanelles are a strait belonging to Turkey in the Mediterranean Sea between the Aegean Sea and the Sea of Marmara, which in turn is connected to the Black Sea via the adjacent Bosphorus.
