Reports of dead animals in Tyrol continue unabated: On Friday, the state reported that after sheep were killed in the Oberland and Unterland on Whitsun and Corpus Christi Day, a bear’s DNA was detected. Other dead and injured animals, which may have fallen victim to a large predator, were reported from Landeck and Reutte counties.
The genetic test confirmed the suspicion of bears torn into sheep in the municipal area of Tarrenz (Imst district) at Pentecost. Six sheep were then killed. Initially, however, there was no concrete suspicion of a sheep mauling in Langkampfen (Kufstein district) on Corpus Christi. “But the DNA of a bear has also been found here,” the country says in a broadcast.
With the exception of these cracks, the agency has received no further reports of damage or sightings of bears in the affected areas, it said.
More dead, injured and missing sheep
In the middle of this week, a dead sheep and two injured animals were also found on an alpine pasture in Nauders (Landeck district). “They must have been victims of a large predator. This was the result of the official veterinary assessment. Details will come from the genetic analysis of the samples taken.” There is also a concrete suspicion that a predator was involved in the Ausserfern.Six dead sheep were found on an alpine meadow in the municipality of Reutte, two are still missing.
Wolves in Ellebogen and Osttirol confirmed
A wolf from the Italian population was responsible for the sheep tears in mid-June in Ellbogen (Innsbruck-Land district) with eight dead sheep and in Matrei in Osttirol with nine dead sheep. That’s what the genetic testing has shown.
